Veteran Olympians

Athletes that Served our Country in More Ways Than One

The road to the Olympics is a tough one. It takes a certain type of person with a certain type of grit to go for (and win) that Olympic Gold. Olympians are warriors, but there are also Olympians who are warriors on the battlefield as well.

Whether or not they actually compete in the Olympics, American heroes from the U.S. armed forces share common traits with Olympians. Strength, resilience, and commitment to excellence are common attributes of those men and women who so valiantly fight for our freedom and those Olympians who compete for the gold.

Many veterans that have served our country have also represented team USA in the summer and winter Olympics through the years. This year at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio there will be active service members and veterans representing the US, in track and field, swimming, shooting and more. While we couldn’t be more proud of our current veteran and active service member Olympians, we wanted to take a minute to walk down memory lane as we spotlight some of the most well known Olympic athletes who also happen to be veterans.
