What is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a condition brought on by being subjected to life-threatening situations. While often associated with veterans, PTSD can affect men, women, and children from all walks of life. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that 7-8% of the American public will experience PTSD at some stage of their lives, and of the men and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, that number rises to between 11% and 20%.
PTSD also often results in or coincides with other conditions affecting mental and physical health, including depression or substance abuse. Fortunately, there are organizations that provide the advice, guidance, and resources that our veterans need. Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) is one of those groups.
Support for our Veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
IAVA supports our veterans in a variety of ways, from advocacy at the state and local level, to offering one-on-one guidance to the available resources and tools that help them advance their lives after their service. Much of that guidance is provided through IAVA’s Rapid Response Referral Program, a case management and referral service that connects servicemembers and their families to any resource they may need. From education resources to transition services, community building expertise to career programs and more, IAVA makes the most of the donations they receive by empowering and providing for our returning military members.
To date, IAVA has provided help, guidance, and advice to more than 1.3 million veterans and their families. Their efficient and effective efforts are just some of the reasons that Veterans Call is proud to partner with and support Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America through our charity app.
They answered our nation’s call, now it’s never been easier to answer theirs. With Veterans Call, there’s now a simple way to donate and support veterans, the military and their families. Download and donate to start making a difference today.
