Veterans’ Charities: How You Can Get Involved

There are many veterans charities out there that help positively impact communities around our nation and we at Veterans Call are committed to supporting these organizations. Right now, Veterans Call is working with 11 charities that give back to our nation’s heroes. Read below to learn more about each of our partner charities and how you can get involved to make a difference.


Wounded Veterans

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (IFHF) is a leader is supporting the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. Since the fund’s launch in 2000, IFHF has provided nearly $200 million to support military families. Since 2010, they have been building Intrepid Spirit Centers around the country with the focus on diagnosis and treatment for vets. There are currently six centers helping veterans and their families, one under construction, and three more planned. As you can see, the IFHF is working diligently to make sure veterans are getting the care and support they need. Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran of America

The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans’ of America (IAVA) is the leading post-9/11 veteran empowerment organization with the most diverse and rapidly growing membership in America. IAVA has become the voice of over 2.8 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. They are working to provide resources such as VetTogether, one-on-one support, advocacy in Washington, career programs for vets, mental health programs, research on many issues involving veterans, a VetLab incubation space, and an array of other programs that help and engage veterans. IAVA is working to bridge the divide between veterans’ and civilians so they can merge back into their daily lives happily and successfully. National Military Association

The National Military Family Association (NMFA) has become the voice of military families everywhere. NMFA provides military spouse scholarships for spouses to learn how to act as a family provider, Operation Purple Camps – a summer camp for military kids, Operation Purple Family Retreats where military families can reconnect and spend quality time together, and Operation Purple Healing Adventures –a program designed to support wounded service members and their families. Armed Services YMCAThe Armed Services YMCA of San Diego is an organization that exists to make military life easier for our junior enlisted military and their young families in the San Diego area. They hold programs for wounded, injured or ill veterans such as urgent needs emergency support, clinical counseling, support and appreciation groups, and an array of family and youth enrichment programs such as Operation Kid Comfort, Camp Hero, Moms and Tots, Craft and Conversation, Kids Club, Operation Hero, Neighborhood Exchange food distribution, and a festive Homecoming experience. Soldiers Angels

Soldiers’ Angels provide aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, their families, and a growing population. Thousands of Soldiers’ Angels “Angel” volunteers assist veterans, wounded, deployed service members and their families within their sponsored programs. Angel volunteers continually donate their time and money to ensure that veteran families have the resources they need to live comfortably. New England CenterThe New England Center and Home for Veterans (NECHV) is one of the nation’s largest private resources for veterans of every era who may be facing challenges and are at risk of homelessness. The NECHV has made it their mission to stop veteran homelessness by offering services such as education, support, employment, and housing. The NECHV created the Veterans’ Training School with the main focus of teaching veterans how to reach economic stability. They partner with five clinical support programs, they offer employment opportunities such as internships with the US Department of Labor Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program, and jobs with numerous security and transportation companies. VFW national Home for ChildrenThe VFW National Home for Children was created as a place where the families left behind by war –mothers and children, brothers and sisters –could remain together, keeping the family circle intact ever when their serviceman didn’t come home. The VFW welcomes families into a small town community where they can live up to four years. They are provided with housing, education, daycare, basic needs, recreation opportunities, and case management in efforts to help them make it successfully in their futures. Operation Support Our Troops

Operation Support Our Troops – America is a grassroots effort that has become one of the largest volunteer-based military support organizations in the country. Their mission is to support American veterans and their families with resources and education while they are deployed or otherwise. Additionally, they offer an array of veteran programs for deployed soldiers, family members, military network and support teams and are linked with further financial support programs for vets. AUSAThe Association of the United States Army is a non-profit educational organization that supports America’s army and family members. Their mission is to represent the voices of America’s Army, foster public support of the Army’s role in national security, and provide professional education and information programs to veterans. Team Rubicon LogoTeam Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. The military teaches driving forces such as tenacity, accountability, impartiality, innovation, and collaboration and Team Rubicon is working to foster those attributes into something positive for both veterans and victims of disaster.
